Would You Rather?

For better is one day in Your courts than a thousand elsewhere. I would rather be a doorkeeper in the house of my God, than dwell in the tents of the wicked. For the LORD God is a sun and a shield; the LORD gives grace and glory; He withholds no good thing from those who walk with integrity. Psalm 84:10-11 (BSB)

I stumbled upon these beautiful scripture verses a few weeks ago. At the time, I was working my way through the book of Psalm as part of reading through the Bible in a year. I etched out a note in the back of the Bible, because the imagery and contrast by the author lept off the page and into my heart. These verses described perfectly how I have been feeling lately.

Everything is changing rapidly and finding moments to reflect on what is truly important, leads to new found revelation. In just looking at these verses, it is clear what matters most to the author. To be near to God in any capacity supercedes all other company; especially those who are not of God.

I started to think about times when I allowed others to occupy a space and consume valuable time that could have been spent just dwelling in His presence. I had to ask for forgiveness since I now recognize how much more precious it is to sit at the feet of Jesus, even if just at His doorstep. A moment alone with Him, provides such peace, clarity, and love-something the world continues to attempt to take away.

God is so very near, but how much time are we giving away on frivolity and unrestricted company? I thank Him for being there. For being sun and shield, warmth and shade, covering and protection. I pray that we can meditate on these verses and get back to what matters- devoting focused time in His presence without conflict of interest.

Stay Encouraged.
