Carefully Observant

Then Jesus spoke to the crowds and to His disciples: “The scribes and Pharisees sit in Moses’ seat. So practice and observe everything they tell you. But do not do what they do, for they do not practice what they preach. They tie up heavy, burdensome loads and lay them on men’s shoulders, but they themselves are not willing to lift a finger to move them. A couple of weeks ago, I was in my morning devotional time struggling after a long week of unnecessary workplace antics. I was sitting in prayer, more so perplexed in prayer wrestling with many different emotions. As I journaled, I questioned “where do I fit in the pieces?” And in true form, as usual, the very reading that was in my plan literally addressed the exact question that I asked Heavenly Father, just moments before.

Jesus’ spoke to the disciples during His time on earth and I so felt His message is revelatory for the time and season we are in right now as His current disciples. Power and leadership have a funny way of drawing out what matters most to those that “sit in Moses’ seat” or in positions of authority. Although we are in systems, we do not have to be influenced by them. This reminded me of the significance of Romans 12:2, a verse that resides in my frontal lobe and within my spirit as I attempt to navigate my environment during these treacherous times.

And although the world’s way may get likes and accolades, what does it all mean if God is not pleased and the Holy Spirit is grieved? I know now that we really need the full armor of God to not conform, because the times will become more difficult not to fall into the enemies snare. As we continue to walk in these times, let us not be deceived by enemies subtleties. Let us stand firm in the faith and gird up-before it is too late.

Stay Encouraged.
